15th Green Status (4/30 Update)

 In Blog

4/30/2023 Update: We are excited to share updates to the 15th hole which will open for the first time to the public in 2023, following our reopening from golf course aerification on May 11th. The colder-than-normal start to the season has led to a longer grow-in time than we had hoped for. In the end, we needed to ensure the putting surface was healthy and had sufficient rooting to withstand and thrive in the busy season ahead. We appreciate your patience through this process. No one is more excited to see the 15th green reopen than we are! For those of you who join us before the 11th, each paid green fee will receive a voucher to return for a round of golf through the end of May (Monday – Thursday) for $99 (plus taxes).

1/27/2023 Update: The work has been completed to remove the viable putting surface sod, excavation of the contaminated greens mix layer, fill with clean material, recontouring the subsurface to the proper design specifications, and installation of putting green sod from our nursery. Lastly, the green was top-dressed and covered to encourage healthy growth through the winter months.

We would like to that Ridgetop Golf for their excellent work throughout the process as well as Pierce County for their quick action. Lastly, a big thank you to our incredible Course & Grounds team. Our crew was steadfast in their determination to restore this putting green to its glory for all to enjoy. They exemplified one of our foundational TrueService pillars that Service is a Team Sport.

Now the big question: when will the green reopen? That is up to mother nature! We will keep our fingers crossed for warm months ahead. While it is too early to commit to a date we will provide updates as we begin the process to prepare this green for play.

12/24/2022 Notice: The 15th green has experienced an irrigation failure related to a recent ice storm leading to erosion throughout the putting surface. This will require extensive work to restore this putting green back to the original design. While our team evaluates and prepares for the project ahead we will be taking the 15th green out of the rotation of play. The golf course will remain open for play with 17 holes.

For all golfers currently registered for a tee time, your options are:

  • You may continue to play at the residency-based rate. Any demand premiums will be removed and each player will receive a $75 bounce-back voucher to return by the end of April (Monday through Friday). The intent is to welcome you back once the 15th green has been restored.
    • Should you elect to book a starting time in a time period in which this green is out of play; you will receive a reminder of this at booking as well as the rate and bounceback above.
  • We are temporarily suspending our cancellation policy through January. You are welcome to cancel your starting time at any point.

In the end, while this is not the holiday gift we were excited to receive but we are committed to working diligently on restoring this remarkable hole back to the glory you all know and love. Until that time we are excited to welcome you to Chambers Bay for a great 17-hole experience.

We will use this page to provide timeline and status updates.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. We appreciate your support and consideration and we look forward to seeing you out on the golf course sometime soon.

Sincerely,

Zac Keener
