Booking a Golf Starting Time

Starting times can be made online through our booking portal or by calling our reservation center at 253-460-4653. Single players can book a time pairing with an already reserved twosome or threesome, but cannot book at an open time. Parties of two or more can book within the specified windows below:

Booking Window for Residency-based rates: Tee sheets are available to book at a residency-based rate 3 months in advance, starting the 1st day of the month (example: On January 1st, tee sheets will be available to book through the end of March. On February 1st, tee sheets will be available through the end of April). Residency-based rates (See Golf Rates below for more information) will require a credit card to book the reservation to hold against a 7-day cancellation policy. A Residency-based time is not prepaid; golfers will pay their applicable rate at the golf shop upon arrival.

Booking Window for Advanced Reservation dates: Tee sheets are available outside of the residency-based rate window (more than three months) through the end of September 2024 at a pre-paid, Advanced Reservation, fee. The fee shown at booking will be charged to the card supplied/on your account. The fee listed is inclusive of all applicable taxes (15.1%). Upon arrival, golfers will have no additional payment for green fees. You will have until the 7-day cancellation policy to receive a full refund. A reduction in player count or canceling the reservation within the 7-day cancellation policy will result in a forfeiture of the prepaid Advanced Reservation fees (see Starting Time Cancellations/Modifications below).

Golf Rates

Chambers Bay starting times are based on each player’s residency (except Advanced Reservations, see below) with discounts available for Washington State/PNGA members, Pierce County residents, and Golf Club Members. Rates are listed in the booking portal. The rate booked is subject to change based upon the residency of each player in the group. Rates vary by month and demand; please check the tee sheet for the available rates.

Residents of Pierce County or Washington State will be asked to provide a valid Driver’s License or Identification Card for proof of residency upon check-in. PNGA members (Oregon Golf Association, Idaho Golf Association, British Columbia Golf, Montana State Golf Association, & WA Golf) will be asked to show a golf handicap card (easily done through GHIN or regional golf association app) to receive the discount.

Military and 1st Responders, (Police, Fire, & EMT) both active and fully retired, will receive our Pierce County Resident rate. Identification must be presented at check-in to receive this rate.

We employ Demand-Based Pricing which means our residency-based rate structure can change in real-time, based on the current demand of the consumer.

Residency rates listed in our booking portal do not include City of University Place Admissions (5.0%) or WA State Sales (10.1%) Tax.

Advanced Reservations are inclusive of the taxes listed above. No additional fees will be collected at check-in.

Groups of 12 players or more may book up to one year in advance.  For information complete the Golf Outing Inquiry Form HERE and a member of our sales department will be in touch to make tee time arrangements for your group.

Starting Time Cancellations/Modifications

Cancellations/modifications to your reservation must be made 7 days in advance of a scheduled tee time. Reservations that fail to check-in, or fail to check-in with a full player count, will be charged a No Show or Short Show fee equal to the full Green Fees, including all applicable taxes which will be issued as a rain check for future use.

Walking Only & Push/Pull Carts

Chambers Bay was uniquely designed to be a walking-only facility. The course routing and architecture beautifully traverse the 249 acre golf course site. Given the large landscape and hilly terrain, the completion of 18 holes will provide a physical test for all. This is an important expectation to recognize and one that has garnered us the distinction as one of the Toughest Walks in Golf. If 18-holes is out of your comfort zone, we welcome you to play a 9-hole round (see above) or join us for one of our many reduced-routing social events.

Both push and pull carts are also available on-site and are included with your green fees. Personal pull-carts are also welcome.

Caddie Services

Chambers Bay is a walking-only course, and while caddies are not mandatory, they can enhance your round by providing yardage information, club selection advice, and detailed knowledge of each hole. The payment for caddie services are made directly to the caddie at the end of the round. We recommend $100 per bag, per round, plus gratuity. The amount of any gratuity is at the guest’s discretion, reflecting the quality of service.

Group caddie services are also available. A group caddie works with all players in your group without carrying a bag. As opposed to a forecaddie, our group caddie stays with your group and does not walk ahead. He or she will describe the best play for each hole, assist with yardages, help around the greens, tend the pin, and perform any other duties required. We recommend payment of $50 plus gratuity per player (3 players minimum). The amount of any gratuity is at the guest’s discretion, reflecting the quality of service.

Chambers Bay NO LONGER HAS AN ATM AVAILABLE ON-SITE. Please come to the facility prepared to pay for the caddie fees listed below. We cannot provide cash-back on-site.

Requests for caddies can be made by contacting the Caddie Department at (253) 552-4869 or by completing this form.

Inclement Weather/Rain Checks

Weather, in all its unpredictable forms, is deeply rooted in the history of the game – plan ahead for any inclement weather conditions as play will continue under most conditions.

Should inclement weather deter a guest from starting their round they are obligated to pay for their starting time for which rain checks will be issued. The value of the round is available to use at a future date toward green fees.

Once a golfer elects to tee off to start their round, the player forfeits the opportunity to receive a rain check. Partial rain checks are not available.

We may elect to close the golf course should dangerous conditions appear (lightning, snow, extremely dangerous air quality). Should a golfer be directed to end their round, rain checks in the full amount of the green fee will be issued.

Pace of Play

Due to the walking-only requirement, course design, and layout, the standard pace of play at Chambers Bay ranges between 4:45 and 5 hours. Players teeing off within the first hour of starting times are expected to complete their round in under 4:45 or directly follow the group ahead. If you find it challenging to meet this standard, we are happy to assist in rescheduling your tee time for a more suitable pace. Plan your social engagements, commitments, and travel arrangements accordingly.

Practice Center

Chambers Bay is home to two practice centers available for use to those playing and those looking to practice. Use of the Warm Up Range (by the turnstand and 1st/10th tee) includes a full driving range and putting green. Usage of this range is included with your green fee.

The Academy Practice Center is home to the Chambers Bay Academy and provides a full driving range with pitching/chipping areas and a large putting green. Access is included with all Academy Practice Center access can be purchased as a Day Pass for $30 at the Golf Shop, offering unlimited daily use. Range hours vary by month and can be found by clicking here to our Academy page.

Please note that the location of the warm-up practice center may vary by season. For inquiries about the current area in use, contact the golf shop at 253-460-4653 x5.

9-Hole/Sunset Starting Times

9-hole play is available most days (based on availability) beginning at a designated time after the last 18-hole round (time varies by month). Reservations for 9-hole rounds can be made in advance (up to 3 months). For more information or to book a 9-hole starting time please call the Golf Shop (253-460-4653 x5).

Junior golfers 13 and under are complimentary with a paying guest. Junior golfers 14-17 are 50% off of the applicable Residency-based rate with a paying guest. Junior golfers 13 or under are required to be accompanied by an adult (either playing or not).

Chambers Bay is a proud Youth on Course/U on Course facility. Rates are available Monday through Friday on a space available, walk-on, status (no advanced reservations) for 9 holes only. Times restrictions apply and vary by month; click here for updated starting times.

On the golf course, the Turnstand is available for grab-and-go breakfast, sandwiches, hot dogs, NA beverages, beer, wine, and liquor. This location is available before the start of your round, at the turn (either 9->10 or 1->18), and after your round. Seasonally, our Oasis offers limited food and drinks between holes 3 & 4, 11 &12, and 14 & 15.

No outside alcoholic beverages are allowed on the golf course.

Local Rules

Preferred lies in waste areas: Given the more than 40 acres of sandy areas throughout the golf course on a former sand and gravel quarry it is not possible for us to maintain these areas each day or during play. We encourage each group to adopt the following suggestion: to provide a ‘fair’ lie in waste while recognizing that not all areas are reasonable supplied a rake, when a player’s ball lies in a waste area, the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball and playing it from this relief area:

  • Reference Point: Spot of the original ball.
  • Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: 6 inches from the reference point, but with these limits:
    • Limits on Location of Relief Area:
      • Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and
      • Must be in the waste area.
  • The area must not be smoothed before placing a ball.

Directions/Parking/Site Transportation

Click here for directions to the facility.

Chambers Bay offers multiple parking options for golfers. At the clubhouse level, there are two large lots designated for golfers, Grill & event patrons. Golfers can choose either of these lots and use an off-site shuttle from the clubhouse to the course level.

For those attending a program through the Chambers Bay Academy, we ask that you park in the gravel lot inside the fence, south-east, of the central meadow parking lot. During the winter months, we may ask golfers playing the course to park in this area when range operations are consolidated. Please call the Golf Shop (253-460-4653 x5) for up to date information on parking.

We encourage all guest to bring any valuables to the Golf Shop to be stored free of charge. Our region is experiencing vehicle break-ins, unfortunately, the course parking lot isn’t immune. Should you elect to keep valuables in your car, please keep them out of plain sight and recognize that you do so at your own risk.

Tuesday Back-9 Starts

Every Tuesday we start groups off of #10 tee playing the back 9, followed by the front 9. This rotation aids our Course & Grounds team to be able to complete more time-consuming routine maintenance techniques on the first 9 holes without intruding upon or delaying golfers.

Chambers Bay is closed most Tuesdays in the winter months (November through February). Please contact the Golf Shop for more details (253-460-4653 x5).

Golf Course Maintenance Practices/Aerification

Our Course & Grounds Team works diligently to maintain healthy turf quality for the best playing experience and the longevity of the golf course. During the summer months, playing conditions throughout the course can become quite firm. In order to achieve “firm and fast” conditions which complement the course architecture, we lightly topdress the surrounds and putting surfaces about every 2-3 weeks. While sand may be slightly visible just below the surface this will not affect the playability.

During mid-May and late-September, we aerify and topdress the putting surfaces. The recovery time is typically dependent on the weather conditions before and during the aerification process. Ideal weather conditions allow us to deliver high-quality putting surfaces when we re-open for play. Reservations near these windows will receive a notification upon booking. Please contact the Golf Shop with additional questions (253-460-4653 x5).

ADA Golf Carts

Chambers Bay may approve the use of a cart for a guest who has been diagnosed and is currently being treated for a permanent disability as defined by the Americans with Disability Act. Golf cart usage requires prior approval (at least 48 hours in advance of starting time). Outside golf cart use is not permitted at Chambers Bay. To preserve the course, the use of a caddie is mandatory with all golf carts. The caddie’s base fee and gratuity are the player’s responsibility (see above Caddie Services) in addition to the golf cart rental fee ($25).

Contact Brent Zepp, Head Golf Professional via phone or email (253-460-4653 | email) for more information and to request the use of a golf cart.

Dress Code

For men and women, we encourage appropriate golf attire. Metal-spiked golf shoes are not permitted.

Golfer Responsibility

Golfers will be held accountable for their own actions, and results thereof, while on site. Any damage to other golfers, park users, the course, Chambers Bay vehicles, public vehicles, or property will be solely the golfer’s responsibility.

Soundview & Grandview (Public) Trails/Chambers Creek Regional Park

Chambers Bay Golf Course is one of the many great features within the 930-acre Chambers Creek Regional Park. CCRP is the home to two miles of saltwater shoreline, two and a half miles of urban creek with a forested canyon, more than 5 miles of walking trails, multiple public meadows, sports fields, children’s playground, and breathtaking mountain and Puget Sound views.

The Soundview and Grandview Trails are designed around and through the golf course. During a round, golfers will see, hear, and pass over the trails at multiple locations. With this in mind, there may be instances in which the public trail, playground, and meadows can be heard from the playing area of the golf course. We appreciate the public nature of the property and work to shepherd the appropriate connection between the community and the golfers.

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in all Pierce County Parks including Chambers Bay and Chambers Creek Regional Park. This policy includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes, e-cigarettes, vaping, marijuana  and all oral tobaccos.
